Lew Zaretzki

Lew founded Hamilton IPV and is recognized as an industry leading IP strategist who has appeared in leading business publications and academic journals such as the Wall Street Journal, spoken at major IP industry events on the subject of SEPs, and published a number of relevant studies of the mobile licensing industry and also of the patent transaction market.

Lew has worked on cellular SEP IP strategy, licensing, transactions, and valuation matters for two decades, including engagements involving many of today’s leading market participants as well as those of the past. In these engagements, Lew has worked with leading licensors, patentees, technology developers, technology adopters, and hedge fund and private equity investors.

Lew has also worked across SEP fields such as Digital Video, Digital Audio, Connectivity and more, including co-developing Cipher’s “Whitworth” AI/ ML-based HEVC and H.264 SEP landscaping services.

For large tech operating companies, Lew develops corporate, IP department, and transaction/ dispute strategies, as well as the valuation and evaluation of IP transactions including licenses, acquisitions and divestitures. For major tech investors, Lew focuses on buy and sell-side IP due diligence and transaction execution for major M&A transactions and investments.

Lew has been honored to be a member of the IAM 300 top IP strategists (2009-2020).

Prior to establishing Hamilton IPV, Lew served as EVP of Advisory Services for ThinkFire, an IP industry boutique, and as a principal in Regis McKenna’s strategy consulting firm where he led marketing strategy development for high tech clients and investment due diligence for private equity and venture capital funds. Before that, Lew served as a management consultant in PriceWaterhouseCoopers’ Telecom Strategy practice and Andersen Consulting’s Technology practice.

Lew holds an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and a B.A. in Economics from University of Michigan.
