Michael Cunningham is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT; member S&P 500), where he has worked since 2004, leading, among other functions, intellectual property, open source licensing, government relations and community architecture.Among other boards, Michael is the chairman of the board of Open Invention Network and a member of the board of National Association of Corporate Directors – Research Triangle Chapter. He speaks regularly on various matters, including open source, ethics and corporate governance matters.

He is a member of a number of professional and legal organizations and speaks regularly on various matters, including open source, ethics and corporate governance matters.

Prior to joining Red Hat, Michael served as:

• Associate General Counsel for IBM, where he was the lead lawyer for the Business Consulting Services division for Europe, Middle East and Africa and a member of the global Senior Management Team for Business Consulting Services; and

• Partner and Associate General Counsel of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where his responsibilities included responsibility for the delivery of transactional legal services to PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting worldwide.

Before entering the practice of law, Michael was an engineer with Sperry Defense Electronics, now Unisys, working in radar and satellite systems engineering. He holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (with high honors) and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (magna cum laude, order of the coif).
